need to access cd-rom

i booted up an old performa 6400 from an 8.5 boot disk and reinitialized the hard drive, and now i want to install system 8.5. i have the install cd, but when i put it in the system does nothing....is there an extension i need to add to the system folder so it will recognize the cd i put in? it recognizes my cd-rom, just nothing i put into it. thanks!



oh, and my 8.5 cd isn't bootable

    got it figured out. simply drop the cd-rom driver extension onto my startup disk. god these macs are easy to work with!
