hey all... just want some feedback (which I know I'll get) *ha!* But does anyone have a clue/rumor/idea if Uncle Steve is going to do anything with the iBooks anytime soon?? Like within the next 3 months? Or, if anything is to happen, it will only occur after MWNY '02??

Anyone??

The iBook Dual USB (gah! what a name!) turns a year old this May, and that usually means it's due for an overhaul.

I have no inside information, nor have I seen any claims of inside information, but I would be surprised if we don't see a new iBook before MWNY. Perhaps even in May.

Like most everyone else out there, I want it to be moved to a G4 very badly... And then the Titanium Powerbook updated significantly in speed. (If not the G5, but I HIGHLY doubt that would happen anytime soon...)

The iBook will be updated soon, because I just bought one this week. Traditionally, I end up buying things 2-4 weeks before they are updated, because I run out of patience. We'll see if this still holds true.

    The iBook rocks.

Since purchases for the academic year are planned in May and June, I suspected we'd see a rev'd iBook by then. MWNY is too late for the academic year...

does anybody know / have a speculation about the rev'd ibook specs when it does come out in may?

i'm hoping for a g4 (naturally) [g5 would be nice too but of course that's asking for too much! ]. with at the VERY least, 400mhz. tho i suspect perhaps the base model will come equipped with anywhere between 500 and 600 mhz. or maybe apple will just move the 550 and 667 processors currently in the titaniums and put them into the ibooks. that would be cool.

perhaps built in bluetooth and gigabit ethernet? as well as faster system busses? oh and definitely a ram upgrade, with at least 256mb, so it can run os x properly.

anyway...just my thoughts. i don't claim to have any validity for them. i'm part of the education market that the ibook serves so this is important to me!

Hopefully the iBook I buy (end of summer '02) will have performance about equal to the current powerbooks, or a little faster?

And a 14.1" screen to dissipate the heat from the G4. Unfortunately, I think that's the trade off for a G4.

My myopic eyes can (should?) probably live with it. Isn't the 12" just sexy as hell, though?

Who knows. The only improvement we might see is the G3 Processor bumped to 700Mhz. Would be the same processor they used in the iMac G3.
