iBook 14 display mirroring.. no luck

I've tried everything and I can't get my iBook 600 to output to an external display. I'm wondering if it's the monitor, or the adapter?

I have an NEC Multisync FE950+ (19") - it will not come out of standby when I hook it to the iBook's display adapter. Montior works fine with any other machine...

Is it possible the video card cannot handle driving a 19" display? (an Apple employee at MacWorld NY stated that as his opinion).

It will drop down to 1024x768 in WinXP so I know it supports the resolution.

Any thoughts? Bad display adapter cable? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

    turn off the iBook.

then plug in the external display.

then turn the iBook back on.

it should work. if not, then you've got something else wrong.

if you hook up an external display that wasn't attached while booting it won't work though.

Tried that first... same result. Monitor stays in standby. Plug in PC's video cable and it wakes up and works fine...

That's not true. If you put the iBook to sleep and plg in the monitor it'll work also.

not sure why your 19" won't work.

is it a funky brand or something.

i've had my iBook hooked up to almost everything under the sun and never had a problem.

NEC FE 950+ - a pretty nice display actually, as CRT's go. Just doesn't seem to want to wake up for my iBook.

    NEC/Mistubishi are pretty standard...

Yeah, they are. My NEC LCD works fine with my iBook.
