Please give me feedback on a recently replaced Pismo DVD drive w/ a strange noise!

Recently I had my Pismo DVD-ROM drive replaced under Apple Care. The ?old one? was from the vendor LG and the replacement from the vendor Matshita.

The Matshita. drive (with no CD inserted) will make a well, how do I describe it?the sound the drive normally makes when you insert a disc and the laser searches for data.

Except the empty drive will make this noise (lasts for about 1-2 seconds) every 2-3 min roughly.

My question is this normal? Has any one else noticed this with the Matshita drive? I?m wondering if the replacement drive (which was not new but reconditioned from the look of it) might still have a fault to make this noise. The drive plays CDs, software and DVD well but this noise is kind of niggling a way at me and does bug me since my old drive never made this noise!

Any suggestions or feed back on this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks.
