New to Apple and Ipad but ??

Hello all,

I just purchased an iPad 2 yesterday and I'm loving so far. Yes, I know the 3rd version is coming out but I got a solid deal through my company.

I am new to the Apple and it's OS and so far I like it. I pretty much have figured out everything with my new Pad, but how the heck do I put one of my DVDs on it? I travel alot and would like to install a DVD or two for the trip. I thought might as well go to an Apple site to have this answered.

Thanks in advance!!

Jason

Using your computer, rip the DVD to an mp4 file.

Put that video file into iTunes.

Sync the iPad... in iTunes, tell it to put that movie on the iPad.

If you want a recommendation, use "Handbrake" to rip the DVD.

To expound on what King said,

    Get HandBrake. Nothing better.

    Set it to MP4 encoding.

Go to HandBrake/Preferences in the Menu Bar and tick the tickbox that mentions the .M4V extension. I forget the exact wording.

Then, back on the main window, choose your source (the DVD).

The simplest thing to do is to make it a specific size, so on the set of three radio buttons, choose the top one.

Personally, I rip my DVDs to 1,000 MB, but if you have great knowledge of the rest of the tabs, you can jigger with the settings and lower the size if you want.

Then click the 2-pass encoding tickbox (and the "turbo first pass" box).

Set it and forget it (meaning click start).

Hours later, drag the finished file to iTunes and then sync to your iPad.

    Thanks for the posts all!!

Is there a price for handbrake or is it a free program?

Sounds pretty straight forward, but wish it was as easy as it was to load music.

Oh well...I'm sure once I get into the swing of it, should be straight forward!!

    Free as beans.

Well, this isn't legal what you're doing here, so it's not supposed to be easy. And HandBrake itself can be intimidating; just don't mess with settings unless you know what they mean and you'll be fine.

Why is this not legal to load my own movies on a tablet? I won't mess with any of the settings.

No, you can do that. You just can't legally rip DVDs. Not even ones you own.

To which you're supposed to reply, "HA HA HA HA HA LIKE FUN."

But it's true. Thank Hollywood for that.

Then you should do fine. Let us know if anything goes wrong with the encode and we'll try to help get HandBrake on the right course.
