many .dmg files i download, i can't get to open in osx. a few will, but most will just reopen opera. i downloaded a dmgfixer, but it won't associate correctly (at least that's what I asusme the problem is).

any idea's on what the problem may be or any fixes?

Is it maybe that the file isn't encoded properly?

thanks

Just open disk copy, and drag the .dmg file onto its icon. Sometimes if the file extension is wrong or something, you may have to hold option Apple while dragging the file onto disk copiy's icon (to force it to open the file). The disk image should mount fine.

If this doesn't work, then I'd try a different browser, like Omniweb. Much better browser and nice looking too!

there's also a freeware app at <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com"; target="_blank">www.versiontracker.com</a> that will do this for you.

How are you downloading them? Please don't say you use Opera for your regular web browsing in Mac OS X. <img src="graemlins/surprised.gif" border="0" alt="[Surprised]" /> I seem to recall that earlier builds of Mozilla used to tag a funny Type/Creator code on downloaded files so they didn't open properly. Opera may have the same problem.

Also, have you tried using the Finder's Get Info window to change the default opener for the DMG files you download?

(btw, I'm moving this to the genius bar since this is a more specific problem than just general OSX discussion)

    DiskCopy should be the default.

It is located at /Applications/Utilities/DiskCopy.app unless you have moved it.
