iMac DV HD Jumper Settings

I replaced my DV iMac's whining Maxtor HD--the high pitched noise was just unbearable--with a big yet silent Seagate.

But I'm not sure if I set the jumpers correctly. The options included:

-Master or Single drive

-Slave

-Enable Cable Select

-a few other options that I don't remember

I was planning on just copying the jumper setting from the old HD, but I can't tell what it's set as.

So, I crossed my fingers and used the configuration for "Enable Cable Select". That's how the HD came out of the box.

I also know that the DVD drive and HD are connected on the same internal ATA bus. So "Enable Cable Select" sounded better than "Master or Single Drive" since there are two drives.

*But I really don't know what I'm doing.*

So can someone tell me if I did this right? And if anyone can give a brief explaination of master/slave HD settings, that'd be doubly awesome. I want to learn.

BTW: It seems to be working fine. I initialized the drive, installed OS 9.2, and I'm posting from the iMac right now.

Thanks everyone. Getting this iMac in tiptop shape has given me alot of headaches (bad RAM, loose modem, noisy HD), but I think after this, I'm done!

After I posted, I did a little research and read up on master/slave and cable select, and everything seemed A-OK. But it's always nice to get reassurance from a third party. Thanks, Jack.
