I just got a hold of a performa 6214 with a really nice laser printer so I'm wondering can I put an ethernet card in the performa or is there some way that I can get my G4 to communicate with this machine? I want to use the printer but I don't really want to buy an $85 serial converter...

Thanks for any and all ideas!

get info on the mac here: <a href="http://members.shaw.ca/mactracker/"; target="_blank">Mactracker</a>

If the Performa has a Ethernet port, you could buy a ethernet hub (switch ?) and connect all your machines, including the printer (if he has a ethernet port) to it. If the printer has no ethernet port you should buy the converter.

If only the performa has a ethernet port, you would have to connect your printer to it.

i'm not sure if OS 9 will run on it, but if it would, you could use printer sharing (no ?)

The downside of that would be that your performa must be running while printing...

It doesn't have an ethernet card, and I'm not sure exactly where I could find one. The slot looks like a PCI slot, but it is very far back on the motherboard.

Does anyone know where to find an ethernet card for a performa?

    thanks

look there. it has your machine's specs. no ethernet onboard, looks like that com port upgrade is the only way to go.
