Installing OS9 On An OSX Computer

in Genius Bar edited January 2014
A few months ago I had a tidy up, reformatting the hard drive (single partition, HFS+) and installing OSX (only). Now broadband is being made available in my area, I need OS9 to run the software supplied by the ISP to configure the computer. However, when I try to install OS9 using the installer on the OS9 CD, the hard drive doesn't appear as a volume that OS9 can be installed on. Does anybody have any ideas on whether OS9 can be installed on an OSX computer without reformatting? I only need OS9 temporarily so I can run the ISP software, note down the internet settings and set them up manually under OSX. Many thanks in advance.
