Boot time for OS 10.1.5

I just wanted to see what other people are getting for startup times for OS 10.1.5. It takes my Powerbook 667mhz DVI 135 sec from a cold startup and 150 sec from a restart. I started the clock at the chime. It didn't use to be this long and I'm just wondering why? Also, by the time the dock shows up, I still have to wait another 30 seconds before it finishes to boot. Is this weird or normal?

Do you have any "login items" set to start automatically?

If so, remove them and try again.

Is it bogging down at any particular point during the boot process? I have an 800Mhz PowerBook G4 (DVI) and it takes about twice as long to boot when I'm not on a network. It hangs up for 30 seconds while the "Initializing Network" message is displayed.

Thats usually where my computer hangs up too. Sometimes though, it zips right by that. I'm always connected to a network. I don't get it. I think I'm gonna restore my system software and start again. Ever since I used that stupid Norton Speed Disk, my hard drive is so loud, so maybe I can kill two birds with one stone.

viking, same thing happened to me, but im in 10.1.4. it used to take me under a minute to reboot when i first got my mac a few months ago, but now it takes forever finding the network and then when it is all done....i still see a blue screen and spinning wheel for a while. finally when i get the desktop, the date and time takes another 30 seconds to load.

maybe it's because i added a router? no idea.

i dont shut down very often, so it doesnt bother me that much. whats worse is that it takes my mac 30seconds to go to sleep!

I had the same problem on my iBook (700 mhz, 640megs) under 10.1.5. I can happily report that boot time under jaguar is greatly improved, and you shouldn't see the system hang when "initializing" the network.
