Can I restrict access to my external FW HD through a password?

I'm not sure if you can password protect a volume in OS 10.1. Perhaps in Jaguar?

I do know you can restrict access to volumes by changing their permissions. Try the following:

    Select the desired volume.

    Get info.

Select permissions from the pull down menu. (Note this menu is replaced by a series of tabs in Jaguar)

Set the permission fields under "group" and "everyone" to ÒnoneÓ.

This will restrict access to drive, so only the admin or owner view it.

If this workaround isnÕt what youÕre looking for, I apologize.
