I know that ipod is designed to work with one "master" itunes. My question is this:

If I have a tower and an ibook, each with a bunch of songs in itunes, can I plug the ipod into EITHER computer without crashing something? Let's say I synch the ipod with the tower and download my whole library of tunes. Then the next day, I synch the ipod with the ibook, which has, say, 20 tunes in itunes. What will happen? Will the ipod "get rid" of the first synch and replace it with the new synch? Will it add the new synch to the end of the old synch? Will it explode? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

i would suggest choosing not to allow the iPod not to auto-sync with either itunes and then just pick and choose the mp3s that you want from either computer.

i do think that if you allow it to sync up with either of them automatically, it will delete songs that arent on the other computer and replace it with the new ones on the 2nd computer.

Here's a thought. If you have OS 10.2 with Rendezvous (which I don't yet. Just a few more days...) and it automatically adds the playlists from the other machine's iTunes when working properly, can you sync from the entire network or just off the hard drive? I'll probably end up trying this and I'll let you know what I find.

I believe the iPod will get rid of its first sync and just have the 20 songs on the second sync, not sure though. If you want to get all your songs I think you can just activate firewire disk mode and drag your mp3s from each computer onto it.

The iPod will usually ask you if you want to sync to the new machine when you plug it in (say no or it will erase the previous sync). I've got a pretty large music library that I'm still converting, but I generally let my PowerBook handle the converting, and then transfer the new 'iTunes Library' files to my tower, then decide what I want to sync on the iPod. No sparks yet!

Also, you can't just 'drop' mp3s onto your Pod and expect them to play. The iPod stores its' music invisibly so you can't copy them directly to another machine.

I'm not sure about Rendezvous, my gut tells me that this sort of sharing will be disabled. Only a few more hours to be proven wrong though!

That iTunes/rendezvous feature *isn't* in oS X yet.... i seem to remember hearing his Steveness say that they intend to build this capability into iTunes sometime this winter....
