Apple Techs stumped

After several days of waiting on Apple to solve (case has been escalated by tech all the way to engineering) ... decided that there must be better minds here.

Attempting to install FCP 3 upgrade (from FCP 1.2.5) on brand new dual 1 gig with 10.2 but I keep getting a message saying that the installer can't find anything to upgrade.

Have already completely "clean" reinstalled 10.2 and 9.2, started classic and installed FCP 3.01 upgrade before the 3.0 upgrade attempted as instructed by Apple Tech.

FCP will install and run in 9, so we know the 1.2.5 and 3.0 serial #'s are correct.

Long time mac user, but I can't solve this one.

Yep...the FCP 1.2.5 version is in the os9 app folder and the 3.0.1 downloaded upgrade is in the osx app folder.

Well, i think there might be a problem, because i tried installing the update with my upgrade from 1, and it says "wrong serial number"

so, try putting them in the Mac OS X folder?

    sorry, this is the best i got <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Are you running the updater in OS X or in OS 9?

I'd do it in 9 and not in Classic.

Have you read through this <a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61001"; target="_blank">AppleCare</a> doc?

I, with the apple techs on the phone, went through all the applecare doc stuff, and then even "clean" reinstalled 10.2 and 9.2. That's when they escalated the case to engineering cause they ran out of stuff to try.
