Web server filesharing oddities
I'm currently using web servers to share files between my Mac and PC at home, over my 10Base T network.
Mac: Mac OS 8.6, Performa 6400, using Personal Web Sharing.
PC: Windows 2000, using Internet Information Service (IIS).
Mac to PC, using Personal Web Sharing and IE 5.0 respectively, works fine: transfer rates are ~250KB/s.
PC to Mac, using IIS and IE 5.0: transfer rates ~20KB/s; using Opera 5.0 transfer rates [i]soar[/i
to 80KB/s. Rate throttling is off in IIS.
If the Mac can serve web pages at 250KB/s, why is it so slow as an web client?
Are Mac browsers really that bad?
Is IIS to blame?
Are there any good (Classic) Mac FTP servers/clients?
Any local bandwidth testers, other than HTTP/FTP? (e.g. streaming video from Apple's Performa TV in card or the PC's Radeon All-In-Wonder would be good  )

For FTP server try Crush or Rumpus.
For FTP client try Interarchy or Fetch.
