Mac Mini CPU Upgrade from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo
I have an old Mac Mini with a 1.83GHz Core Duo processor in it. Because it can't run Lion, it's basically been relegated to the role of "entertainment."
A few years ago, there were a lot of guys swapping the CPUs in these from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo. At the time, about the only thing that demanded 64 bit apps was Apple's Java (this was several years ago).
I was apprehensive about trying this upgrade because I thought that even though the C2D's could obviously run when used to swap out a CD, I thought that it might be possible that the memory addressing in the CD based logic boards might be locked in to 32 bit memory addressing. I didn't explore it any further because everything else worked fine with a CD based system.
Is anyone out there that tried this upgrade successfully running Lion on it? It seems a waste to have a perfectly good running system stuck in the role of "entertainment system" when I could think of a lot of other good uses for it.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what issues might arise with Lion on a 32-bit-only CPU but it's an easier fix than upgrading the CPU.
