Digital8/Hi8 - How to change modes?

Okay, I have a Sony TRV 103 digital video camera. It states that if I use Digital8 video tapes it records 60 minutes, that is great, I am okay with that. Then, it states if I use Hi8 tapes it will record 120 minutes...great, I need that to record something from my VCR...

My question is how do I switch from recording in Digital8 to Hi8? I put in the Hi8 tape and it still records in 60 minutes...

The user manual says nothing...

you should try switching from SP (ShortPlay) to LP (LongPlay)

of course LP is more bad if it comes to quality, but who cares?

Sorry, Digital8 camcorders will only PLAY BACK Hi8 or standard 8 recordings.

Digital8 camcorders, by their nature, will only RECORD in digital format and using a 90 min Hi8 blank at best quality mode (SP) you will get 60 mins tops or 90 mins (LP).

If you have a Hi8 tape previously recorded on a Hi8 camcorder at 120 mins then you will get 120 mins playback on your digital camcorder at Hi8 quality.

    Hope that answers your question.
