I have someone here on my floor who's Dell laptop isn't booting up now properly with XP. On startup it gives a blank desktop and gives the message "Can't find entry point". I'm not sure what's wrong as when I suggested booting off of the OS disk did nothing.

Dude, you shouldn't have gotten a Dell. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Microsoft can remotely block a user from logging on if they find illegal stuff like MP3's and such on your computer. If you call tech support, they will probably give you an earful of BS. It?s in the EULA.

It sounds like some system file is missing that it's looking to initially get at startup. Maybe just reinstalling XP over the current installation to overwrite system files will solve it?

    ok, ask him this.

    1. did he have a cracked copy of XP?

    2. did he have auto update enabled, or does he remember specifically disabling it?

i would guess he had a cracked copy of the OS, it updated itself and has proceeded to lock him out of his own machine.

tell him he's lucky MS has corrected his lax moral standards. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />
