    Yeah right,

60GB iPod yours for only $1599! US

I think the 10GB model was a mistake. Far too expensive for the average user. Even the 5GB model is pretty expensive.

I'd rather stick to my Sony Discman, and my CD burner. Yeah it doesn't hold 2000 songs, but really, how many songs can you listen to in one day?

As someone who just bought a 10 GB version, I don't think 10 GB is a mistake. Expensive? Yes. It is worth every penny. I thought I'd have buyer's remorse, but after using for 3 days, I like it better the more I use it. My PC only friend is going to get one. He's even thinking about getting an iBook to go with it.

Here's the reason I bought the 10 GB over the 5 GB. I'm paying $400 and I can increase the size 100 % for 25% more. It no big jump from $400 to $500 once you get over the initial $400.

I certainly think that there is a market for a 60 GB iPod. Encode at a higher rate. I was going to get a CD player for my car, but don't have to now (connection kit). I don't have worry about getting my CD stolen or ruined while in my car. I've hooked it up to my sound system at work and never have to drag my CDs around again.

an iPod price cut is more than ever in order....look at the new Nomad Jukebox 3 just released: 20GB for $400...& 40GB for $500. They are now Firewire compatible, too.

Still not even close to the sheer sex-appeal or portability and functional superiority of an iPod...but the ante has been up'd a bit!

    see news blurp at <a href="http://www.macminute.com"; target="_blank">www.macminute.com</a>

Surprisingly, the 10GB model is rated higher on most reviews than its 5GB counterpart.

Go to the site... SB1394 Transfers.. 40GB hd, etc. This is much improved over the original Jukebox.

Well the new Jukebox 3 is basically a heavier version of the iPod with a CD Player appearance, for functionality, personally I have found the Jukebox to be decent and good enough. Obviously iPod is technologically superior in style, but the price is what is killing me, if the 5GB iPod was $299 I myself would buy one. For me, storage is not the real issue as I have my Dlink 32MB player (well ok, storage is somewhat an issue, but not after the 128mb point or so, 32mb is just pretty meager, but then again, I bought my player for $7) and although it..well, sucks, it works and is small, and I can get 10 hours on rechargable AAA batteries.

iPod has everything I want, I just can't afford it.

You and so many others are in the same boat....thats a definate problem for apple...they should make a 20 gig iPod and price the 5 gig at 199 or less...then they will sell sooo damn many

AV HAD AN IDEA TO WIDEN THE iPODS CAPABILITYS SUCH AS A TEXT MSG SYSTEM BUILT IN TO TEXT FRIENDS AN COLLEGUES OR TO SEND (TXT) MUSIC TUNES ETC TO ONE ANOTHER. LIKE A MOBILE PHONE BUT OBVIOUSLY MORE ADVANCED.

AND ALSO A WAY TO LINK UP YOUR iPOD TO YOUR COMPUTER OR LAP TOP TO E-MAIL ETC. IS THIS A DECENT RELISTIC IDEA IN YOUR OPINION

I HAVE HAD AN IDEA TO UPGRADE AND WIDEN THE iPODS CAPABILITYS SUCH AS HAVE A TEXT MSG SYSTEM BUILT IT SO A USER CAN TXT A FRIEND OR COLLEAGUE FOR WHATEVER REASON. ALSO A METHOD SIMILAR TO A TXT AS SENDING PEOPLE MUSIC TUNES ETC DIRECTLY FROM YOUR iPOD OR FROM YOUR COMPUTER BY E-MAIL OR ANOTHER WAY? BY LINKING YOUR iPOD TO YOUR LAP TOP OR HOME COMPUTER ETC. DO YOU THINK THIS IS A DECENT/REALISTIC IDEA??

No need to shout Dr M Machen.

I think sending text via the ipod would not be an advantage over a mobile phone.

Sending your MP3's would be a cool idea though if it was straight from the ipod. Once G3 (not apples G3) takes off it should also be fairly quick as well compared with our current bandwidth.

The only problem with sending MP3's would probably be a legal issue.

Actually, there's a pretty good point somewhere in there. What do we think the average age of someone with 20+gigs of mp3s? 18-22? Now, what do we think the average age of someone with $500+ to drop on an iPod is? Older than 22? IMHO, Apple won't make a 60gig iPod for mp3's anytime soon because no one will buy them!

    rr.</strong><hr></blockquote>

It doesn't really bother me that the iPod is only affordable to the rich Sharper Image crowd. In fact I would never have even considered buying an MP3 player until the iPod arrived, and if I ever have the money, I'll probably buy one.

What does bother me is when Apple overprices their computers so that only rich twats can afford them, for example the CUBE. It bothers me because I want to see Apple thrive for decades to come, and this cannot happen if Apple only caters to the rich B&O owners.

Still, if you want quality, you've got to pay, and there's nothing wrong with Macs costing more than Wintels...it's only a problem when the value begins to suffer.

About my idea of the iPod having a text message and mp3 song sending ability to friends/colleges. I understand that the legal issues may prove too great to launch, develop and mainly get the rights to do this (copyright) but what if your iPod can be rigged upto the airport then to your computer using the email/sending capability of your tunes to someone through the Firewire this being an alternative to the air port, increasing the speed and capability of this new product method dramatically.

Another variation could be a mobile phone and the i pod merged together creating a whole new communications system for both formal, business use and casual/leisure use directing at and applicable to a not just one or two but a whole range of target markets to aim for by Apple. I know most up to date mobile phones have similar capabilitys but in my opinion this would be a significant method for consumers to use.

ANY OPINIONS AND VIEWS ON WHAT I HAVE SUGESTED AND PROPOSED ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED AND WELCOMED BY READERS AND USERS!!

My 20 GB iBook HD is getting pretty full, and it's mostly MP3s, so a 60 GB iPod would interest me. If I rip all my CDs (I only encode at 320 Mb/s), 60 GB might be enough. Now, if I encode my vinyl collection, I know even 60 GB won't be enough, but it'd be a helluvalot better than 10 GB.

It is just a matter of time till all perceived limits of technology recede to the horizon. Just compare the iBook with the PowerBook 140. Within ten years or so iPods (or their equivalent) will appear infinitely large, will be very thin, the batteries will never wear out, ect. We are passing through an inflection point in the history of technology. This doesn't solve copyright problems or other complex social problems but technical issues will go away (or at least change dramatically) in the next few years.

    Tomahawk,

As for saving of prefs on the ipod i am unsure. But I created a alias of a folder named homework and placed it on the ipod. It updates automatically if any changes are made to the folder named "homework" on my computer. That is when I plug in the ipod.

P.S. I quit smoking to buy the pod, and i can't imagine ever living without it (ipod that is). Starving student.

Undoubtedly true....however - market forces will still be in place. If apple were to make a 60gig iPod with no additional functionality, how would they change the way they market it? I still firmly believe that the die-hard music fan with 58 gigs of mp3s encoded at 320kbps is not now, nor probably ever going to be a huge market enough to justify production of this wonder device.

BUT - what if apple were to change the marketing... The iPod as backup device, mp3 player...AND... Or, what if apple were to add new capabilities?

This is pure speculation for speculation's sake... little bit 'o fun. Personally, I highly doubt we'll see a 60gig iPod in it's current incarnation. I'd love to see it expanded to interface with more things - microphones, digital cameras, settop boxes - in order to justify the larger HD.

What would justify a 60gig iPod for you (and please be more creative that "a whole lotta high quality music" )?

$100 off an iPod promotion. Of course you have to buy a new Mac to get it... but it's still nice.
