Superdrive burn problems
Roommate's new MDD Powermac's superdrive is giving problems, he burnt two data DVDs in Toast and Finder and in both cases a verification error popped up (same data in both cases, 4.1GB worth). A lot of data cannot be accessed on the disk (Finder hangs while opening the folder)... The DVDs are Apple branded too.
So, anyone know what's wrong? He has two very pretty and expensive coasters now... Hopefully it isn't a hardware issue, though if it is, is the superdrive user-servicable?

then try and copy those files using CD's instead of DVD's. see if it works then.
if it works, it's probably DVD related, if it doesn't, it could well be file and/or toast related.
try dragging and dropping the files from the HD to a CD and burn it. see if it works with Apple's cd burning software. you can also try and burn things using Disc copy.
just take a pile of files, turn them into a disc image, then burn the disc image to a cd and/or DVD.
just a few thoughts. let me know how it goes.
