How do I use a Linksys wireless pc card with my 550 powerBook. I have tried downloading drivers but I have not found one to work yet.

got another question to add to that, does anyone know if i can use some third party generic usb 802.11b adapter to connect to a wirelss network.

i am trying to jump onto the network at school for cheap. some idiot messed up the connection to my dorm building and we dont have any internet for a while so i want to hijack a connection from the comp. lab. and i dont want to spen 100 dollars on a airport card. cuz college people are broke anyway.

Hmmm, well actually I think that the airport card apple sells might be cheaper than third party alternatives (but reception will be more limited - third party cards stick out of the machine and built in ones don't).

I have a Farallon SkyLine PCMIA(? that right) card which works great in any Mac (portable with a PCMIA slot open), but I think when I bought it, it was like $130? Might be cheaper now of course...

Ack! Just read your post again and noticed the USB part. I haven't personally ever heard of any USB--&gt;802.11b adapters. I think you are pretty much looking at using a PCI card?

What kind of machine do you have?

actualy go to <a href="http://www.pricewatch.com"; target="_blank">www.pricewatch.com</a> and they have some of what i am talking about. but i found some pci cards for real cheap at microcenter, for 47.99 each. so if i can use one of those it would be great instead of paying the 100 for an airport card and then there is tax, so that almost another 10 dollars. and i use every penny here so it matters.
