Is it possible to update osx 10.4 directly to 10.6?

I'm planning to buy an ipad3 which I believe needs the latest itunes to get it to work.


Problem is that Itunes needs at least 10.5


 


I'm still on 10.4.11 on a 2Ghz Intel Core Duo from 2007 (not a Intel Core 2 Duo)


I seem to have read that for 10.6, u need a Core 2 Duo processor.


 


Also if I'm able to update the ipad on a friend's computer, will it be able to communicate with my 10.4 system?
