I am re-doing all my icons and havent had any problems, but i cant seem to change the finder's icon in the dock. how do i do it?

i went to:

macintosh HD --> System --> Library --> Core Services ---> Finder

and replaced the blue finder face with a jaguar spotted one. but it's still the old blue one in the dock. maybe im changing the wrong icon? (im probably about to feel really dumb cuz it's probably something very obvious that im overlooking.) thanks in advance.

You need to be root to do that. And I really don't recommend doing so.

why not? what adverse effects will that have?

not sure, but might have already done it when i couldnt change the macintosh HD icon a few months back, and i tinkered around in Terminal with the help of someone on this forum.
