i know it's bad when the mod here has questions, but here goes.

a guy brings in his laptop today and it won't boot. some weird combination of stuff he did that i won't go into now.

when he starts it up now, he gets a flashing world icon (i assume it's looking for a network boot drive) then kicks to the OS9 boot folder, with the flashing icon.

i can connect to his machine just fine via target disk mode. i installed OS9 on his machine to no avail, it still boot. i can see his files etc, and can pull things off.

the OS9 cd won't boot in the machine, and i don't have an OSX cd on hand.

when i hold down the option key, it shows up as having no drives available.

anyone else run into this before?

edit: while writing this i found a 10.1.5 cd and it is booting off of that. just in case it happens again though, anyone else ever run into this, and if so, how did you fix it?

I had the same problem with a new iBook and in the end it had to go back to Apple as it had a motherboard fault.

Try booting from the Hardware Test CD and running the extended test...mine found a fault on the logic board test.
