"easy" question about sound

I've got a dual 867. Dumb question: How do I control the volume of the sound it makes during startup? Sometimes when I power up, it's a huge booming sound, other times, it's more reasonable. Is it only dependent on the general speaker volume? So, if I power down after jamming to some itunes, when I power back up it's earth-shatteringly loud? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Yea, that's about right. Based on my experence with my laptop, the startup sound blasts at the same level you shut down with. If I shut down the computer on mute, I will not have a startup sound the next time I boot up.

Although, my minitower is connected to external speakers, and I control the volume there and don't mess with the software volume control. No problems there.

Yes, it's based on the global system volume.
