new powerbooks releasing soon?

in Future Apple Hardware edited January 2014
I'm looking at getting a Powerbook and would like to know if I should buy now or if anyone has heard anything about new releases for the Powerbooks around July when MacWorld comes around.

For the type of work I do, I think I'm buying it more for the OS and stuck on this overpriced hardware.

no one knows for sure but it is IMO very likely there will be a Powerbook update between now and MWNY.

My guess is May at the WWDC.

If you can wait, it's probably a good idea. I'm glad I waited. . . I would later have kicked myself if I bought that Pismo in Nov 2000.

If you're buying a computer for school, the best time to buy will be in August.

I am holding my Powerbook purchase as well until MWNY. An 800mhz Powerbook wuth SuperDrive would go down fine (doubts on the 1" SuperDrive though)

There is a rebate coming for the Powerbooks any day now. $50 off a bto.

    <update> Incentive for resellers

The last update was at the end of 2001.

How many threads exactly like this are on the board right now?

Last update wasn't really much of an update, all Apple did was add a combo drive to replace the CDRW or DVDrom BTO options. So really the last true revision was when it got the speedbump up to 550 and 667 MHz. Wasn't that at MWNY last year? Or am I losing my mind?

They came out in the fall, several months after MWNY.

I expect a speed bump to 800, but probably nothing much more, in May or June. One for the iBook, too. But I'm betting before MWNY.

The PowerBook update will most likely come at WWDC or MWNY. It will be at MWNY if they do something to it like add a Superdrive. Jobs will want everyone to think it's the coolest, blah blah blah. However, if updates are minor, it would most likely be at WWDC or some press release between now and MWNY. Perhaps Apple is planning to update their full product matrix at MWNY.

I don't think Apple has ever updated the entire Matrix at once.

It was even worse than that:

What a terrible thing to have lost one's mind. Or not to have a mind at all. How true that is.

Aside from the iMac, I don't think the matrix has ever been this long in the tooth, has it? I don't think updates will happen all at the same show, but they could happen in fairly rapid order. Can you say Press Event?

    Please, Steve! Please!
