Anyway, I reinstalled the software, deleted the old version, ran disk utility to fix permissions, and still no cigar. Seems like I?m missing a file. Most likely a corrupted file somewhere, but where?

try changing the location to something you know you have access to.
I'll try to change the permissions under root.

I don't need to rehash the age-old tirade about why using root in the GUI on Mac OS X is a Bad Thing? again, do I?

The new 7.01 update fixed all the isues.
