TiBook wont shut down

Hi. My dad has a Tibook 400Mhz G4 and he cant shut it down. He tried to select Special ----> shut down ( yes he hasnt made the transition to Jag yet) and it seems to be turning off but it just restarts. It happens each and every time. We called AppleCare, we tried to reset some firmware settings etc and nothing worked. Apple said that its most likely hardware. Is there any thing else we could try? Would delelting the Finder Prefs help?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

you happen to have a list of what you've tried, and what you haven't tried? just don't want to be going over all the exact same stuff.

i know you mentioned firmware stuff.

    1. Did you try to reset the PRAM? press Command+Option+P+R. hold those down until you've heard it chime 4-5 times.

    2. have you tried taking out the battery?

    3. have you tried removing any RAM that was added after you bought the machine?

    4. have you run a hardware test on the machine? (don't know if those models came with a hardware test CD or not)

give some of those a shot and let me know.
