5.25 floppy drive for mac?

I've got some old 5.25 disks that I want to preserve some info from. I'm pretty sure there isn't a 5.25 floppy drive available for anything newer than the old Mac Classics, so I'm planning to get an external 5.25 drive for those (I have access to one) and copy the files to 3.5 drives.

Any tips on exactly what type of 5.25 ext floppy drive to look for?

I like how people talk about having 800kb disks they want to be able to read. I find it somewhat amusing because computers as new as a beige G3 can read 800 kb diskettes. What has prevented me from getting a USB floppy for my PowerMac G4 is the fact that USB floppy drives can't read 800 kb diskettes, and most of my old diskettes are 800 kb anyway (Word 5.1a, Voyager 1.2, etc).

Yeah, that's the thing that got me thinking about this again, but I realy only need a short term solution and the CatWeasel seems a lttle pricey for the job.

    Thanks for the advice though.

ahh, you want a regular 5.25 drive? in that case i would say to use any drive you can find. working 5.25" drives aren't exactly common this day and age.

you should able to find someone who's willing to part with one that's been gathering dust for the last few years. ask around.

It might be easier to just find an old computer with that size drive and then get the data out by networking or a hard drive swap.
