.rar problems

I sometimes download a binary from some or other newsgroup, and sometimes these are encoded as .rar files.



Stuffit in os X (both 6.5 and 7) absolutely chokes on all of these (i.e. I have not opened one of them succesfully so far).



Any ideas as to another app or something?

What browser are you using to download these files? I know Netscape downloads the .rar file as text sometimes and it becomes corrupt.

check out <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=15272&db=mac"; target="_blank">UnRarX</a> seems to address the prblems that you're talking about. looks like others have had issues with stuffit and .rar files.

I am using a newsreader, well-known one at that, Thoth it is.

will try that right now. Thanks for the link, strange I didn't find it on versiontracker, but anyway.

lol, you probably didn't find it because it's really new. looks like it's only been around a week or so, but so far has a 5.0, not bad on versiontracker.
