Help with simple airport connection please?

i've been reading some negative comments over on Apple's discussion boards regarding setting it up ( I thought it was meant to be a skoosh - grand old Scottish word ) so I thought i'd get it clear in my mind before starting.

I want to connect 2 G4 imacs using airport - not needing internet connection. i just want to be able to send from one to the other . One has 10.2 the other 10.1.5 so I believe I can use the one with 10.2 as a software base station. . I've just fitted both with airport cards and the little symbol has appeared on the menu bars.

In simple terms what do I do now? I have this fanciful notion that i just turn Airport on ( however that is done ) and they will both magically find each other. Please tell me its that easy. Thanks in advance for any help offered.

hmm, dunno as i haven't done it in person before. usually what you need to do would be to set up filesharing on one or both machines, then you sould be able to use the "connect to server" command and find the other machine.

let me know if it doesn't work.

    Your right it is skoosh!

-I guess you have run Airport set up assitant to get things started. This will give you basestation a name etc!

-On both computers select the base station and save password to keychain!

-On both computers set up file sharing in control panels!

-Now simply goto the Go menu in finder, connect to server and you are set!!!!

    - Oh be sure to make sure the speed is set to 11Mbits on the airport!

If you want to share an ethernet conection on the 10.2 machine, all you have to do is turn on Internet Sharing in via System Preferences --> Sharing --> Internet. The network should then appear under the signal strength menu item of the other computer. All you need to do then is select that network to connect to.

If you want TCP/IP base networking, double-check your AirPort card's TCP/IP settings...It should probably be using DHCP.

If you only want to network the two computers without sharing an internet connection, you can choose to create a Computer to Computer Network from the signal strength menu under "Create Network..."
