iPhone volume issues

My iPhone volume is been going on and off the last few days.  When it's not in silent mode it will not ring or make the click sounds when you type.  It also doesn't play in iPod mode.  However when I put in headphones they work just fine.  What can the issue be?

    Maybe your internal speaker is broken. If it was a software problem, a reboot should fix it - try doing a force reboot by holding the power and home button until the phone shuts off and turns on again and make sure the volume is up. If it is at maximum volume and no sound comes out, you'll need to take it in for a repair.
