iMac DV 400 HD not recognized.

Strange problem--I have an iMac 400 DV that I am refurbing for a friend. There's a 40GB 7200 rpm drive in there that I have installed, it took 10.2.2 no problem, all the updates, etc.

Weird part--when I try to boot into OS9 on with an external FireWire drive, or from the CD drive, it doesn't see the internal HD. Doesn't mount, can't get it to mount...but then if I simply boot the Mac as normal, it sees its own drive no problem?

Is this a drive jumper problem? What did I do wrong?

you didn't installed the OS9 drivers for it. you should have done that when you erased the HD.

Hmmmm. I guess that makes sense, but i could have sworn that I did so.

Well, thank God for Carbon Copy Cloner, or this would be a very difficult mistake to repair!

Still, it will be time-intensive. I will repost when I am completed.

And I am humbled. I guess when I originally put 10.1.5 on the machine I didn't install the drivers...and then when i wiped it clean and dropped 10.2 on it, I didn't even think the drivers wouldn't be there.

It worked beautifully. CCC is absolutely indespensible. Makes working with HD in X almost as easy as the drag-n-drop installations of 9.

Thanks for the quick diagnosis--i needed someone to check my thinking.
