Printing wirelessly on a non-postscript printer

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. working wirelessly with a Canon PIXMA MP990 Series Scanner/Printer (which is also shared with our PC). My problem is that when I go print from Photoshop I cannot access the color and other ‘fine-tuning’ print dialog boxes wirelessly.  Mac says something about ‘printing to a non-postscript printer’, and I have to fire up the ancient PC!! What a pain! Downloading updates doesn’t seem to help. Can anyone help me?

Did you install the printer driver from here:

and choose the driver in the printer setup?

Does it matter which of the two (or both) I should install? One says for wireless, the other 'for documents and images'. Thanks.

The second link is a list of other downloads, the wireless download is just for setting the printer up over wifi. The first link is a direct link to the driver.
