My friend just got an iBook and his DSL internet service provider said he had to buy NTS TunnelBuilder to connect? How can this be, isn't there another way to get around having to buy this software, I can't imagine that the protocol for DSL can be different for mac and pc

I think the tech must have been reading from a script and got his lines crossed up. He gave 'answer B' to 'question A'.
"If you are on a Macintosh you need to get TunnelBuilder." is the answer to a question like "How do I connect to my office's Virtual Private Network from my Macintosh?"
I can't imaging that any DSL provider requires all network traffic to be tunneled over a VPN.
Tell your friend to ask again until he gets someone who knows what they are talking about.
so how should he set it up in OS X?
its shame they don't even have anything for OS X...and my great aunt owns it...perhaps i should have a talk with her

You can just put all those numbers into the right places yourself.
Just talk your Auntie through it...
