Does anyone know how to take a screenshot while watching a DVD on an ibook? I'm buying the 12" combo model for my son next week and I want to make sure that he can get clear screen captures for a project that he is working on. (We do this now on a PC with WinDVD). Thanks in advance for your help.

There are a number of freeware and shareware tools that will allow you to capture the screen when Apple's own screencapture tool refuses during DVD playback. My personal favorite is <a href="http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/"; target="_blank">Snapz Pro X</a> because it has several other features including motion/sound capture of the screen.

Search VersionTracker.com or MacUpdate.com for other similar utilities.

SnapZ may have problems with ATI chips like the Radeon in the iBook. Apple's built-in screen cap (command-shift-3) is disabled and won't work.

The solution seems to be Snatcher. Check Versiontracker for it.

Like Defiant said, the 'screencapture' tool works just fine from the command line when DVD Player is open...as long as your graphics card supports Quartz Extreme...

    [code]

    usage: screencapture [-icmwsWx] [file] [cursor]

-i capture screen interactively, by selection or window

control key - causes screen shot to go to clipboard

space key - toggle between mouse selection and

    window selection modes

escape key - cancels interactive screen shot

-c force screen capture to go to the clipboard

-m only capture the main monitor, undefined if -i is set

-w only allow window selection mode

-s only allow mouse selection mode

-W start interaction in window selection mode

    -x do not play sounds

file where to save the screen capture

    </pre><hr></blockquote>

    HTH

    btw, it's FREE !
