imac and playing CD's-intermittent pauses

OK -I'm still working on resolving my pics situation and I need help with another problem. When I play audio CD's in my imac, it will pause for a couple seconds (I hear a whirring sound) then continue playing, very annoying. Happens on every cd, every song, not at the same place though. CD's are clean and storebought. Any ideas.

    Have you installed the recent update to the Carbon Sound Manager? Check the Software Update panel in the System Preferences if you're not sure.
