Per Apple.com and apple over the phone support. The 30-pin to lightning adapter will not support video. This means that it will not work with the HDMI or the camera adapter.
These are benefits of a smaller connector, not specifically the Lightning connector. Apple could have used micro USB and every consumer would be better off.
