to journal or not to journal

Hi,

Two quick questions regarding ibook 700 mhz, with 640megs ram:

Should I journal? And if I did turn journaling on, can I turn it off by typing the same thing in the terminal but changing "en" to "dis" (as in "enable")?

Also, should I be worried about draining my ibook battery before charging it?

Thanks in advance,

Nicholas

Yes, journaling can easily be turned off just the way you mentioned.

On an iBook, no you should probobly not journal, unless you want to drain your battery quicker (lot more disk usage), and slow down your computer considerably, ibooks dont have the fastest HD's you know. But if you ever crash you wouldnt have to sit through the scanning disk as long, not a big reward for the performance degrodation. Journaling is designed for Servers that have large disk arrays that down time needs to be minimized. Think of how long it takes to scan at start up a 20 gig disk, multiply that by 10 for 200 gigs, 20 for 400 gigs, etc. and if your loosing bussiness because of it it makes sence to reduce that time.
