setting up OSX's firewall

I've decided the time has come to set up OSX's firweall as I have a cable connection to the Internet. however, in the sharing tab I am faced with a selection of options for access which i can allow if I check the box. My question is this : can I safely leave them all unchecked? I really don't know what i am doing with ports etc. and am only concerned about still being able to access the internet and play online games.

You can have them all unchecked; if you plan on sharing files, setting up an ftp server, or whatever is on that list, then you need to leave those ports open, otherwise the firewall blocks them.
