Live video streaming from 27" iMac to HD TV

Hi, I have Internet WiFi Panasonic HD TV, already running its own limited content from my router, (ie: using the Panasonic interface, Facebook, utube etc).  I want to stream live video from my Mid 2011 iMac to the tv, Whats the best option?    Is Apple TV the way or is there a better 3rd party hardware available?  And please remember I am still fairly new to the Apple fan boy club.
