backup question

hi, im going to clean install jaguar, format it and then install it, but i want to backup & then restore my applications and my user, i will be storing the backup on a partition on a wintel machine connected thru lan ... so anyone know which is the best way to do these, im actually doing a disk image of my apps and tried to do it one for my user but it showed an error...

if wouldn't go with the clean install option. use the install & archive (?) option. preserves your user, and does a new system.
