After a crash, you will need to use the stand-alone installer... Make sure to attempt all such things which are in Apple's documentation... Since they stated such, I'm guessing that's what you're seeing... If you've already tried such, then you might have to wait for a better answer

Delete the MacOSXUpdate10.2.3.pkg package from the /Library/Receipts folder and try Software Update again.

If it still won't catch it, wait for the standalone installer to be released (very likely tomorrow) and try installing it manually.

If it won't install through Mac OS X's default Installer.app, you should then try installing it via the app called Pacifist. Though, if you choose to use Pacifist, you should IMMEDIATELY use Disk Utility's "Repair Disk Permissions" on the startup volume after it is installed (and before restarting). I say this because Pacifist has botched permissions for me several times in the past.

thanks for the speedy help... im hoping to have this resolved before she comes home from college so she can use the school's connection to d/l the 50 mb update...

also is there anyway to tell for sure whether or not 10.2.3 is installed?

I believe the installer installs the files in the same order as that list. So, if you check a few files at the beginning of the list, in the middle, and at the end, that should give you a good idea of how far the installation progressed.

uhhh i just checked a few of the modification dates of those files on MY machine (which i had thought was updated to 10.2.3 all the way) and some of them are as old as 12/7/02 or so... and they are only as new as 12/15/02 or so

    what is up???

oh and deleting the plists isn't a bad thing is it? they will just be rebuilt on the next application launch... right?

Well, I don't know about the dates. I think they should match whatever were the dates in the install package and they could easily be a few days old. If you open the receipt it in Pacifist, you will see the modification dates. At first glance, there appears to be a wide range of dates. Mail.app, for example, has mod dates mostly on 11/18/02. The mach_kernel itself is dated 12/14/02. The HIToolbox framework has 12/18/02 and 12/04/02 on various files.

The plists are simply preference files. If you delete one for an app, that app will just revert to its default settings and regenerate the plist on the next run.

my 10.2.3 install did also crash..

I was using the Software Update Installer. He crashed in the optimization phase (everything crashed, I came right back to my desktop with no apps running). :/

I then reinstalled 10.2.3 because I had already saved it over the menu in SU... now I'm repairing permissions. hope it all works out.

MacUpdate.com has a different link for the combo updater to 10.2.3.

    <a href="http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty1.pl/product=02206&platform=osx&method=sa/MacOSXUpdateCombo10.2.3.dmg.bin"; target="_blank">here

This one is about 59 MB.
