Why's my iBook battery not holding a charge?

This is really pissing me off. For a few days now, my battery has not been able to hold a charge. It says 100%, but when I unplug it, I only have about 7 minutes before it sleeps because the battery is dead. I'm gonna call Apple, but I wondered if anyone here had any suggestions first. Thanks.

Are you sure it's the battery? Do the status lights indicate that it's really empty? Some broken systems may wrongly interpret your battery. What system are you running?

On the other hand: did you leave your ibook out in extreme cold lately?

I think it's the battery. The computer shuts down after a time, and when I push the button on the bottom of the battery, the light blinks really fast.

Yep, just call Apple, I had a similar situation with my iBook and they sent me a replacement battery (You ship back your current battery). You may want to try resetting the Power Manager Unit before calling for a replacement battery.... do a search in Apple's support documents on how to do so for your iBook.
