Hopefully a simple one. My dual 800 no longer recognises cd-roms unless I restart the computer. Once restarted, it works each time ... wierd. I'm using 10.2.3.

Thanks

and with "no longer recognizes" what exactly do you mean ?

? they fail to mount on the desktop

? the drive spits them out again

why does it work if you restart ? does he only accept one disk at a time ?

It's your first point ... they fail to appear on the desktop and the eject ceases to work. I restart the beast and there it is. Subsequent CDs also show.

Once I restart, any CDs I insert show up no problem. It's just the first CD I load that doesn't show.

So that I understand it correctly:

    - You power up your computer

    - You insert a CD

    ? she doesn't mount

    - you restart with the CD in the drive

    - now the CD shows up, subsequent too.

    Right ?

Alright, let's do the FixRound? then.

    1st Round:

? delete everything in your Caches folder (~/Library/Caches/)

and try it again. If it still a NoGo then we can try some other stuff.

    and Brad, don't. just don't.

You're a star! ... that was it ... so what was the problem? So I know in future.

well, that's the other problem. I can't really say what it was. Something got corrupted and prevented your disks to show up. The cache is just the cache. It caches things which are often used. simple, but sometimes stupid.

So i can't really give you a big pointer to say "That was it!", just the directions.

I'm happy to have solved your problem and wish you a nice Sunday. Here it's already Sunday, you'll have to wait 8 minutes.
