[quote] The first generic solution to proplems is attempting to repair the disk and its permissions. To do this, you need to boot up from the Mac OS X Install CD (the first one). On the main installer screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. Select the name of your hard drive, click the First Aid tab, and click Repair Drive. When that is finished, click Repair Disk Permissions. You can then exit the installer and reboot back into your normal system.

thanks brad. (brad's the one who wrote that text which is quoted)
You're missing a font. Have you got Helvetica Neue? iCal needs it and it won't launch without it.
It could be another font, but this is the font I lost after getting rid of my early-adopters 'Is OSX safe?' partition and copying my old preferences and libraries back anew. I had to go to the Knowledge Base to find this out. Is it possible you've reinstalled incomplete back-ups?
Or something?

Finally - I got it. I thought I had the Helvetica Nueve font, but apparently I did not. Also, I reinstalled iCal and it works, now.
Comments
go to ~/Library/Caches/ and delete everything in the folder. no harm will be done.
It did not work. Any other ideas?
yep, I have more suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion on Disk Permissions.
Unfortunately, it did not work, either. iCal does not open. I don't get my old calendar or a new blank one.
Any other thoughts?
