Any good UNIX references?

I am interested in digging deeper into OS X and UNIX. I also wanna get more into learning how to develop tools for OS X. I know these are kinda interchangable but not totally.



Are there any good resources online for stuff like this? I can code PHP so learning new programming tools won't be that difficult..at least I hope not.



Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to specify more accurately what you want to accomplish. What should your tools do? Do you just want a minimal interface or also a graphical one? Do you also want to learn the structure of the OS, or perhaps OS administration?



Also, you might want to tell how good you are at general programming activity - algorithms, object-oriented design, etc.? What is the scale of projects that you have done with PHP?



IMHO, general programming technique is what takes time to learn. New language syntax in itself is a breeze.

I think for now a good place to start would be to get a good understanding of the UNIX OS. From the grass roots. After I get a good hang of that I can probably think about writing actual programs for it and OS X.

If you know php you have made a good start. php is a very sophisticated language.
