Multiple Internet Control Panels?

Hi,

I have jagwire 10.2.3 ona a dual 450 with a dial up connection. I went to the systems prefs today and found that I suddenly had a new group of control panels!! I have a group under the system group called "Other" and it only contains 2 identical Internet Control panels that let me access .mac settings. These are identical to my Internet control panel in the Internet and Network group.

does anyone know why they should appear / exist and how should I get rid of them? I haven't messed with my setup since I got the machine!!

This is one for Defiant, though I might be able to take his cue. 't Is a folder of cache you need to empty. I'm not 100% sure, but methinks it's the one located at:

    HD>Users>your_user_name>Library>Cache s

Alternatively, it might be the one located at:

    HD>Library>Caches

The first one, however, does contain something containing PreferencePanes, so I guess you should start there first. Um, log out and re-login after deleting. That should do it.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, it is so that deleting cache will not harm your computer/system/software in any way.

    Hi Guys,

thanx for the replies. I have opned the folder you suggested and it contains a lot of stuff from includng:

    folders called:

    Desktop

    Sherlock

    iPhoto Cache

    MS Internet Cache

    com.apple.helpui

    com.apple.ical

    com.apple.addressservices

    com.apple.iToolsSlideSubscriptions

    and files called:

    com.apple.ATSServer.003065A8D724.FODB_Classic

    com.apple.ATSServer.003065A8D724.FODB_Local

    com.apple.ATSServer.FODB_User

    com.apple.FCacheClassicDomain

    com.apple.FCacheUserDomain

    com.apple.LaunchServices.UserCache.csstore

    com.apple.preferencepanes.cache

Which of these must I trash or do I simply trash the entire cache folder?

    thanx

everything in it. logging out isn't necessary, re-opening SysPrefs is.

    Thanx defiant,

    Just one question:

could you explain what you mean by reopening sys prefs? do I trash everything in this folder and then open the sys prefs control panel? or do I trash the contents of the cache folder, restart the machine and then open the sys prefs control panel?

    thanx

your first one. trash them, quit SP if it's running, open again (or not again...)

doesn't matter anyway.. the first one's just faster.

    Thanx defiant,

    it worked a treat!

It would be nice however to know why this occurred in the first place. could you shed little light if you get a moment?

    thanx

uh well.. that's the other part.

the file "Caches" is used by other applications, like System Preferences, to store some things that you just recently used.

sometimes however, you get multiple caches from the same application, and the application mixes them up and displays both of 'em. then you get what you just had.

for the next time, if you have something similar, just trash that folder first. there are only caches in it, so you loose nothing; like you clear the cache in a browser.
