2010 MacBook Pro Boot Error
Hello,
I really need some help and support in getting my MacBook pro to work again. I only got it booted up one time last week when I held down the shift button when I hit the power button. But since then, it has not allowed me to boot up. It only has the gray screen with the apple logo as if it is loading but does nothing.
I have tired all sort of things, and even put the DVD installation disk in, but here is where I am concerned.
I am needing to save all my files on this laptop into my external hard drive device, but how can I access all my files if this does not want to boot up?
I did this step:
holding command-v at boot time. AND all it says is.
DISKOs2: I/O error
I do know this laptop told me it was due for a new battery. So not sure if this may the issue. But I need some help in ways I can get this laptop booted up so I can at least fgo in and save all my files that's in the harddrive.
Also wondering if this may be a harddrive issue? How can I fix this computer?
Thanks!!!

If you can boot up from the installation disk, try running Disk Utility from the utilities menu and try to repair the disk. If it's an I/O error with some of the OS files, you'd just need to repair or reinstall the OS, which won't affect the files on it. If the drive is broken, there is a limited chance you can recover the data from it - it might spin up long enough in an external enclosure to be able to copy important files from it.
If the repair does nothing, buy an HDD or SSD e.g:

http://www.amazon.com/Blue-500-Mobile-Hard-Drive/dp/B0037NYQ6Q
If you get the SSD, it comes with a USB cable to plug into SATA drives and you can use the following guide to replace the drive:

With the cable, you can plug your internal drive in via USB and see if it will spin up to allow you to copy files off it. Most things will be in your user folder so you can just drag that over.
