Hello,

I really need some help and support in getting my MacBook pro to work again.  I only got it booted up one time last week when I held down the shift button when I hit the power button.  But since then, it has not allowed me to boot up.  It only has the gray screen with the apple logo as if it is loading but does nothing.

I have tired all sort of things, and even put the DVD installation disk in, but here is where I am concerned.

I am needing to save all my files on this laptop into my external hard drive device, but how can I access all my files if this does not want to boot up?

I did this step:

holding command-v at boot time. AND all it says is.

DISKOs2: I/O error

I do know this laptop told me it was due for a new battery.  So not sure if this may the issue.  But I need some help in ways I can get this laptop booted up so I can at least fgo in and save all my files that's in the harddrive.

Also wondering if this may be a harddrive issue?  How can I fix this computer?

Thanks!!!
