Here, I boot iTunes, as normal, version 3, X.2.3, and it says that:

"The iTunes Music Library file cannnot be read because it does not appear to be a valid library file"

<img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

What gives, I haven't changed any settings and this happens, anybody got any ideas of how to sort this out? If neccessary I do have all my Mp3s backed up in another folder...

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I think you could just delete the library file (normally a file named iTunes library.something in the folder iTunes, in the folder Music, in your user folder). No mp3 will be lost, you will have to reenter them into iTunes, and the smart stuff might be lost, though I wouldn't know. I don't care so much for stars and playdates.

    Your privileges also may be hosed a little bit. check that your music folder has the right privileges set. (or where-ever iTunes saves its "Library")

    Actually, repairing permissions and things will not help in these cases. It would seem that there is a rare bug in iTunes that causes it to corrupt its database file. No amount of restarting or repairing will fix it. I have personally seen this happen three times before.

    As der Kopf said, simply delete the iTunes Music Library files and restart iTunes. Your music will still be on your hard drive, but you'll have to re-add them to the iTunes library list and sort them back into playlists.
