Need non-Apple router recommendations

Hi. I need advice on buying a router. I'm using an IMac, a model from circa 2007, running Mountain Lion.

My current router is an old Apple Airport Extreme base station that I bought on ebay. It's the 802.11g model. Unfortunately, my wifi connection has started frequently dying and I have to reset my cable modem and the base station. I wasn't sure, until recently, whether the issue was with the cable modem, or the base station, but someone else told me he'd had similar issues in the past with the same base station. Also, my internet connections never dropped before I'd set up wifi, when I had the ethernet cable connected directly from the cable modem to my IMac.

My needs are modest. My download speeds are only 15Mbps. And my apartment is small -- only about 600 square feet. And my wifi-capable devices are the IMac, an IPod Touch and a cheap Android phone. So, I don't need a very powerful router. It's why I purchased the Airport Extreme that I currently have. New routers, especially Apple's, seem like overkill because I don't need their power and bandwidth capabilities. Consequently, I'm thinking of finding another used router on ebay.

So, I would really appreciate suggestions of particular makes and models. I'd ideally like to find one that's as inexpensive as possible. The other major factor is the ease of setting up and configuring the router.

Thanks!

M

I've bought a ton of routers but only Apples have run pretty much without any issues for years. It's the only kind I buy. Period.

ASUS RT-N16 with Tomato firmware (I use Toastman builds).  http://tomatousb.org/

I just looked at my uptime and it's over 105 days...  I had to unplug the router 105 days ago to move furniture around.  This thing is rock solid and hasn't ever given me issues.

Linksys EA6500 Wifi AC, the next generation of Wifi is here. Get that one or wait a couple of months for the prices to drop, lowest Wifi AC Models are about 130, and you might need a new wifi ac usb adapter.

No point in buying an old band router when you're gonna upgrade some day once again.

Plus airport routers are way expensive. What I do when buying things is I look their model numbers on ebay and find a good seller, I save a bunch of money every time when I buy new stuff.
